One thing needs to be underlined first and foremost: while the canton of Valais in Switzerland should remain the focus, the Sepp Blatter Foundation, which first saw the light of day in 2006, should start operating on a wider national and international basis in the future, whilst still remaining true to its original principles.

2008 Award

The 2008 award went to the Upper Valais Association Forum Migration, which advises on and coordinates various projects to assist with the integration of asylum seekers and migrants. Examples include sponsorship of new arrivals for cultural purposes, the organisation of beginners courses in German at various locations in the canton and assistance with establishing dialogue between religions.

Future stars of Valaisan football

FC St-Maurice had proposed the idea of organising a competition – aimed at identifying the most talented under-13 players – to all of the clubs in the canton of Valais. “This trophy is a fantastic idea. We’re delighted to support it, all the more so because it’s going to be an annual event. It is vital that we boost the development of young players,” said Sepp Blatter.

A bumper cheque

The Foundation received a cheque for CHF 70,000 from the Fondation de la «Nuit des Neiges» on 29 August 2008 as well as a CHF 20,000 private donation. The funds were raised in February at the charity’s twenty-fifth annual snow-themed gala evening in Crans-Montana. With 550 guests, this year’s event was the biggest yet, and raised a total of CHF 180,000, to be shared between a number of charities. What a success!

Night of the Snow

The «night of stars» - 25 years of charity. The annual «Night of the Snow», a gala dedicated to raising funds for charity, is already a time-honoured tradition in the Valais, the home canton of FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter. On 23 February 2008, to mark its 25th anniversary, the gala concentrated on football and the fight against cancer, represented by the Sepp Blatter Humanity and Football Foundation and A.V.E.C. («Association pour la Vie-Espoir contre le Cancer»), an organisation dedicated to the fight against cancer.
